Support wildlife, protect pollinators, and give nature a home with BugBlocks, an innovative modular bug hotel created in partnership with Buglife – The Invertebrate Conservation Trust. With every purchase, 10% of all profits are donated directly to Buglife, helping fund vital conservation work across the UK.

Eco-Friendly Materials

Each BugBlock is crafted from a sustainable, biodegradable blend of cornstarch PLA plastic combined with recycled wood fibres sourced from oak, birch, and walnut. This unique material not only reduces environmental impact but also ensures durability and weather resistance while retaining a natural, wood-like finish.

Customisable for Local Species

No two habitats are the same — which is why BugBlocks are modular and interchangeable.

  • Each block is designed with a specific species in mind, from Wool Carder Bees to Lacewings and Ladybirds.

  • Blocks can be swapped or rearranged based on geographical needs to best support the species in your area.

  • This adaptability means your bug hotel always provides the most effective, targeted shelter for local wildlife.

Easy to Clean & Maintain

BugBlocks have been carefully designed for easy cleaning and replacement, ensuring your insect hotel remains healthy and free from fungus or disease build-up. The sliding-block system makes it simple to remove, clean, or replace units when required, giving your garden’s residents the best possible environment.

Placement Guidance

For best results, BugBlocks should be:

  • Firmly fixed so they do not rock in the wind.

  • Mounted on a south-facing surface between 1 and 1.5m from the ground.

  • Placed where pollinators have access to nearby flowers, bare earth, and a source of water (a shallow saucer works perfectly).

Cleaning & Swapping Routine

  • Every two years, remove the used blocks in November/December and store them in a cool, dry outbuilding (a simple shoebox works well).

  • Replace with a fresh set of BugBlocks so the habitat remains active.

  • In spring, return the stored units outdoors to allow insects to hatch. By July, once they’ve emerged, clean the blocks with warm soapy water and pipe cleaners. Let them dry fully, ready to be swapped again in the next two-year cycle.
